Below is a brief history of LunchApp.com and links to public documents supporting the legality of the electronic collection of meal applications. Often with any new technologies there are many questions and misunderstandings about how it works.

LunchApp.com serves as a secure gateway (128-bit encryption) for the collection and transmission of information. No data is processed or seen by Meal Magic Corporation or any other third party. Information is retrieved by an authorized school official who reviews and processes it on her local computer through Meal Magic .Net Suite’s application processing.

During the process of setting up lunchapp.com, representatives from the USDA and the Michigan Department of Education were involved to offer critiques and concerns. Every issue was addressed to prior to the opening of the web site.

LunchApp.com was designed around specifications and security requirements of the Department of Justice that were referenced in the USDA’s memo “Electronic Transactions in the Child Nutrition Programs”. In fact, LunchApp.com exceeds the requirements of the Department of Justice for the collection of this type of information.

Further, several of the first school districts to use LunchApp.com were specially audited by the Michigan Department of Education and were all judged to be in full compliance. Since then, some have had their regularly scheduled full operational reviews and were also found to be in compliance.
